Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is recruiting apprentices right now through its early careers programme. If you're 16 or over and want a paid route into engineering or manufacturing — no degree needed — you can apply directly on JLR's early careers site. Places are at their West Midlands sites, you earn a salary from day one, and JLR pays for your qualification.

What apprenticeships does JLR offer?

JLR runs several levels of apprenticeship, so there's a route whether you're leaving school at 16 or finishing A-levels or T Levels:

  • Advanced apprenticeships — hands-on engineering and manufacturing roles, working towards a Level 3 qualification while you work on real production lines.
  • Higher and degree apprenticeships — you work at JLR while studying for a Level 4+ or full degree qualification, with your fees covered.
  • Disciplines span engineering, manufacturing, software and business roles — the exact schemes open change through the year, so check the live vacancies list.

How to get an engineering apprenticeship at JLR

  1. Check the live vacancies on the JLR Early Careers site — schemes open and close through the year, and popular ones fill fast.
  2. Read the entry requirements for the specific scheme. Advanced schemes usually ask for GCSEs including maths and English; degree schemes ask for A-levels or equivalent.
  3. Apply online — expect an application form, online tests and an assessment centre or interview.
  4. Prepare your evidence — JLR, like most engineering employers, wants to see genuine interest: a project, a hobby, work experience, or a Shine CareerMap showing you've explored the role all count.

Is an engineering apprenticeship worth it?

For most school leavers who like practical problem-solving, yes. You earn from day one, finish with a recognised qualification and years of real experience, and carry no student debt. Engineering apprenticeships are also one of the most searched career routes in the UK — over 8,000 people a month search for them — because the pay and progression genuinely compete with graduate routes.

What if I don't live near the West Midlands?

JLR's schemes are site-based, but engineering apprenticeships recruit across the UK. Search live engineering and manufacturing roles on Shine to see what's open near you, or read our engineering apprenticeships guide for the full route explained.

Shine lists real, verified opportunities. We checked the JLR early careers page on the day this article was published.
