The free UK Skills Passport™: everything you've done, with proof, in one place

A skills passport is a record of your qualifications, experience and achievements that you can show to employers, colleges and apprenticeship providers. Shine's UK Skills Passport™ is free for 16–24 year olds, and you decide what anyone sees.

What is a skills passport?

A skills passport is one place that holds everything you can offer — what you've studied, where you've worked or volunteered, and the evidence that backs it up. Unlike a CV, it doesn't get rewritten for each job. You keep adding to it, then pick the items that fit each application.

What goes in your UK Skills Passport™

Qualifications and courses

GCSEs, A levels, BTECs, T Levels, short courses and certificates, with grades where you have them.

Work experience and volunteering

Placements, part-time jobs, volunteering and clubs, each with what you did and what it shows.

Verified careers activities

Talks, visits and work experience your school or college logs for you, with a certificate anyone can check.

Evidence files

Upload certificates, reference letters, project photos and links so every claim has proof behind it.

You choose what employers see

Every item is private until you share it. You decide, item by item, what goes with an application.

Yours to keep

It stays with you when you leave school or college, and it's free for young people.

Skills passport questions

What is a skills passport?

A skills passport is a single record of what you have learned and done — qualifications, work experience, volunteering, awards and the evidence behind them — that you can show to employers, colleges and training providers. Shine's UK Skills Passport™ is a free digital version for 16–24 year olds in the UK.

Is the UK Skills Passport™ free?

Yes. It is free for young people. Schools and colleges can choose a paid partner dashboard to log and verify careers activities, but students never pay.

How is a skills passport different from a CV?

A CV is a two-page summary you rewrite for each job. A skills passport keeps everything, with proof attached, and you pick what to share. Shine can also help you turn passport items into a CV.

Who can see my UK Skills Passport™?

Only you, until you choose to share. Items stay private by default, and you decide item by item what an employer sees when you apply through Shine.

Can my school or college add to it?

Yes. Partner schools and colleges can log careers activities such as employer talks, university visits and work experience. These appear as verified, with a certificate that can be checked online.

Is this the same as a government skills passport?

No. The UK Skills Passport™ is run by Shine (Shine AI Ltd), an independent UK careers platform. Some sectors and employers run their own skills or training passports; you can upload their certificates as evidence in yours.

UK Skills Passport™ is a trademark of Shine AI Ltd (application pending). Reviewed 2026-11-04.
